How to Turn Off YouTube Shorts
Set a daily Shorts feed limit, even to zero, see fewer Shorts on Home, and cap a teen's Shorts in Family Center. YouTube's own controls, step by step.
The closest thing to an off switch is the Shorts feed limit. In the YouTube app, tap the You tab, then Settings, Time management and Shorts feed limit, and pick a limit. YouTube lets you set it "to zero." On your Home feed, you can also tap More on a row of Shorts and choose Show fewer Shorts.
We read YouTube's help pages and blog posts on October 24, 2026.
About 9,900 people search "how to disable youtube shorts" each month, and 6,600 each search how to turn off, block and remove them.
Can you turn off YouTube Shorts completely?
Not with one setting. YouTube's help offers ways to limit and filter them:
| Control | What it does | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Shorts feed limit | A reminder after the time you set, from zero up | You, Settings, Time management |
| Show fewer Shorts | Fewer Shorts on your Home and Watch Next pages | More on a grid of Shorts |
| Not interested | Tunes which Shorts you get | The menu on a Short |
| Watch history off | No video recommendations on Home | Your history settings |
| Family Center limit | Blocks a child's Shorts feed for the rest of the day | Family Center, Time management |
YouTube Help, "Set a Shorts feed limit," "Manage your recommendations & search results" and "Teen supervision features in Family Center," read October 24, 2026.
How do you set a Shorts feed limit?
- Open the YouTube app and sign in.
- Tap the You tab, then Settings.
- Tap Time management, then Shorts feed limit.
- Pick a time limit. Zero is one of the options.
When you reach it, "a message will appear reminding you," YouTube says, and you'll be offered "an option to dismiss or ignore your set limit." For your own account it's a nudge, so it works best if you leave the reminder alone.
How do you see fewer Shorts on Home?
Scroll to a grid of Shorts, tap More at the top of it, then tap Show fewer Shorts. YouTube said in October 2024 that it would "temporarily show you fewer Shorts in your Home feed," so expect them to drift back.
Changed your mind? Go to My Activity, open Other activity, and under Show fewer Shorts, select Delete.
How do you stop certain Shorts from showing up?
Tap the menu on a Short and choose Not interested, or Don't recommend channel to drop a whole creator. YouTube retired the Shorts dislike button on June 25, 2026, and now relies on "Not Interested" and "Don't recommend this channel" to tune the feed.
To wipe that feedback later, go to My Activity, open Other Google activity, select YouTube 'Not interested' feedback, then Delete.
How do you limit Shorts for your kids?
On a supervised account, open Family Center, select your child's account, choose Time management and set the daily Shorts feed limit. When they reach it, YouTube shows a message that "will prevent them from scrolling the Shorts feed for the remainder of the day." The limit resets every morning.
For kids it's a hard stop, since the message blocks the feed for the day. In January 2026 YouTube said parents would "soon" be able to set the timer to zero, which turns the Shorts feed off for them.
Does turning off watch history remove Shorts?
It clears your Home feed. "If you don't want video recommendations on Home, you can delete and turn off your watch history," YouTube says. Its help doesn't say this removes the Shorts tab itself.

You tab, then Settings, Time management, Shorts feed limit, and choose zero.
Does Show fewer Shorts last forever?

Not Interested and Don't recommend this channel, since June 25, 2026.
