Best Time to Buy Instagram Likes: What We Know
Mosseri says there's no universal best time to post. What Hootsuite's 2025 test of early engagement found, when our likes start, and what timing can't fix.
If you buy likes, the usual advice is to order right after you post, so they land while Instagram is still deciding who sees the post. The evidence for that is thinner than most guides admit. Instagram's own head has said timing "doesn't matter much," and the one public test of early engagement used friends' likes, comments and shares on six posts. And Instagram ranks on "watch time, likes and sends," with likes counted per reach, so a like count is one part of one signal.

In week 2, Hootsuite pushed for early engagement by "Sending DMs to 5-10 friends, asking them to like, comment, and share," and by sharing each carousel to Stories right after posting. Reach rose, and "Week 2 posts reached more non-followers than Week 1 posts," it reported. That's a real result, with two limits. It's six posts on one account. And the early engagement came from people who also commented and shared, while a likes order adds only likes.
What does Instagram say about timing?
"If you really want to optimize, check your insights to see when your followers are actually online," Mosseri said in the same June 2026 reel. Shopify quotes him saying post timing "doesn't matter much." Instagram's Insights show your followers' most active times on professional accounts. Before posting, right after, or later?
- Before posting. You can't, since a likes order needs the post's link.
- Right after posting. Our likes start within an hour, by our likes page, and arrive gradually. That's the window Hootsuite tested.
- Days later. The count goes up on an older post. Instagram doesn't say whether that changes the post's reach then.
What can't timing fix?
- Clean-ups. On November 19, 2018, Instagram said it would begin "removing inauthentic likes, follows and comments from accounts that use third-party apps to boost their popularity."
- Likes per reach. Mosseri told creators to watch "likes per reach," next to watch time and sends per reach, so likes from people who didn't otherwise see the post don't add to the other two.
