Add a link to your Instagram story with the Link sticker, open to every account since October 2021. The steps, the limits, and up to 5 links in your bio.

To add a link to your Instagram story, make the story, tap the sticker icon at the top, choose Link, paste the address and tap Done. Then place the sticker and share. Instagram opened the Link sticker to every account on October 27, 2021. Its announcement says "Use the Link sticker to add a link to your Instagram story. When people tap on the sticker, they'll be" taken to the page. The old "Swipe Up" link is gone, so guides that still mention it are out of date.

We read Instagram's announcement and the guides as Google shows them on October 23, 2026. We didn't post a story on a live account.

How do you add a link to an Instagram story?

  1. Start a story. Swipe right from your feed, or tap your profile picture.
  2. Add your photo or video first. It's easier to place the sticker after.
  3. Tap the sticker icon. It's the square face at the top of the screen.
  4. Tap Link. Paste the web address you want people to visit.
  5. Change the sticker text if you like. Then tap Done.
  6. Move the sticker and share. Drag it where people will see it.

Buffer's guide gives the same path: "Tap the sticker icon at the top of the composer," then "Choose 'Link' from all the" sticker options.

Linktree's April 2026 guide says "Instagram's native limit is five links in your bio," and that "Stories also support one link sticker per frame." A Reddit user selling on Etsy put the caption problem plainly: "The only place Instagram allows links are in stories." Links in post captions show as plain text on a free account, so people can't tap them. Meta's Meta One Advanced plan, from $49.99 a month, adds "links in organic posts and reels," Meta said on September 15, 2026.

Go to your profile and tap Edit profile, then Links, then Add external link. Paste the address and give it a title. In.bio's September 2026 guide lists the same steps. Instagram made five bio links available to everyone from April 19, 2023, Plann That reported. Before that, you had one.

Why can't I add a link to my Instagram story?

The sticker is open to all accounts, so a missing Link option usually comes down to the app. Update Instagram, then close and reopen it. If the sticker still isn't there, check that you're making a story and not a post, since posts don't take Link stickers.

Do story links get tapped?

Only if people see the story. More story viewers means more taps on the sticker. Our guide to free Instagram story views compares the free story view offers. Hclout's free tier gives 12 free Instagram likes and 100 free Instagram views on a public post, with no password, on the free page. A short Cloudflare check runs before each claim.
