How to Add Music to Instagram: Posts, Stories, Reels and Profile
Add music to an Instagram photo post before you share it, to stories with the Music sticker, to Reels from Audio, and to your profile. Fixes if it's missing.
To add music to an Instagram post, pick your photo, tap Next, and choose a song on the screen before you share. Instagram's Help Center says "After you've taken or uploaded a photo, you can add music before sharing it." Stories use the Music sticker, Reels use Audio in the camera, and your profile can hold a song clip too. Instagram added music to feed photo posts in November 2022, so you don't need an outside app.

How do you add music to an Instagram story?
Make your story, then swipe up or tap the sticker icon, and pick Music. Search for a song, choose the part, and pick how the lyrics or cover show. A Reddit answer from 2022 even uses this to get music on a photo: "Add the picture to a story, then select stickers, then click on the sticker that says 'Music'."

Why can't I add music on Instagram?
The account type is a common cause. Business accounts can see a smaller music library, guides say. An Instagram reel from December 2025 suggests "Switch account type -> Creator," then "check your Reels music library" again. The other fix is easy: update the app if it's out of date. "Instagram music not working" gets about 2,400 searches a month, so you're not alone.
