How to Repost on Instagram: Posts, Reels and Stories
Instagram's Repost button shares public posts and Reels to your Reposts tab. Sharing to your story, resharing stories, and stopping reposts of yours.
To repost on Instagram, tap the Repost button on a public post or Reel. Instagram's Help Center says "On any public reel or post you'd like to repost, tap Repost," and you can add a note. Your followers "may see that you reposted in their feeds," and the repost sits in "a dedicated repost tab on your profile" afterward. To put a post in your story instead, tap Share, then Add to story. Instagram added the Repost button in August 2025. Older guides that send you to repost apps are out of date.
We read Instagram's Help Center as Google shows it on October 23, 2026. We didn't repost anything on a live account.

How do you repost a post or Reel?
- Find a public post or Reel. Reposts work on public content only.
- Tap Repost. It's the two-arrow icon under the post.
- Add a note if you like. The Help Center says "To add any text to your repost, tap the bubble by your profile picture" first.
- Find it later. Hibu notes "All reels or posts you've reposted will be available in the Reposts section of your profile" later on.
Instagram's August 2025 post says reposts make it "easier for you to share your interests with your friends," and they can be recommended to others too.
How do you share a post to your story?
The Help Center's steps: "Tap Share below the photo or video in Feed," then "Tap Add to story," then Next.
How do you repost someone's story?
If someone tags you in their story, Instagram sends you a message with an option to add it to yours. Without a tag, it depends on their settings. You can repost someone's story "if they have been tagged in it and the original poster has enabled resharing," IMDb's news page says. A February 2026 guide says "Instagram now lets you repost story without being tagged," for accounts that allow it.
How do you stop people reposting your content?
| Setting | Options |

For stories, the Help Center says to "Go to Settings > Sharing and reuse > Stories to stories," then pick Everyone, Followers you follow back, or Off. For posts, it has a page on how to "Stop allowing others to share your posts on Instagram." A private account also keeps your posts away from the Repost button, since reposts work on public content.
Do reposts help your account grow?
A repost can show your post to the reposter's followers, and Instagram says reposts "will be recommended" too. That's reach you didn't have to post for. Hclout's free tier gives 12 free Instagram likes and 100 free Instagram views on a public post, with no password, on the free page.
