How to Change Your TikTok Username (and Name)
Tap Profile, Edit profile, then Username, and save. TikTok lets you change it once every 30 days, and your name every 7. The rules, in TikTok's words.
To change your TikTok username, tap Profile, tap Edit profile, tap Username, type the new one and tap Save. "Your username can be changed once every 30 days," TikTok's support center says, so pick carefully. Your name, the one shown on your profile, is separate: it can be up to 30 characters and changes on its own 7-day clock.
We read TikTok's support pages as Google showed them on October 23, 2026. TikTok's support site builds its pages with scripts our reader can't run, so the steps are quoted from Google's view of them.
How do you change your TikTok username?
TikTok's support center gives four steps:
- "In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom."
- "Tap Edit profile."
- "Tap Username and enter your desired name."
- "Tap Save."
The new username has to follow TikTok's rules. "Usernames can only contain letters, numbers, underscores, and periods," the help page says, and they run from 2 to 24 characters.

What's the difference between your TikTok username and name?
Your username is your @handle and your profile link. Your name is the bigger label on your profile, and you change it with the same first two steps, then "Tap Name." The two follow different rules:

Can you change your TikTok username before 30 days?
Not through any TikTok setting we could find. The 30-day rule comes from TikTok's own help page. Some videos and Reddit threads suggest tricks, like changing your phone's date and time. That isn't a TikTok feature, so we wouldn't count on it, and it's safest to wait out the 30 days.
Will changing your username affect your account?
It can if you're verified. TikTok's artist help center says "If your account is verified and you change username, you may lose the verification." Your profile link changes too, since it's built from your @handle, so update any links to it elsewhere after you switch.
