How to Clear Instagram Cache on iPhone and Android
Android has a Clear cache button in app settings. iPhone doesn't, so you delete and reinstall. Plus the in-app browser cache and your search history.
On Android, clear Instagram's cache in your phone's Settings: Apps, then Instagram, then Storage and cache, then Clear cache. On iPhone there's no cache button for a single app. To clear Instagram's cache there, delete the app and install it again. Apple's own page explains why offloading isn't enough: it "frees up storage used by the app, but keeps its documents and data." Instagram also has a separate cache for links you open inside the app, and its Help Center says to "Tap Clear cookies and cache."
We read Instagram's and Apple's help pages and the guides as Google shows them on October 23, 2026. We didn't clear a cache on a live phone.
How do you clear Instagram cache on Android?
- Open your phone's Settings. Not Instagram's.
- Tap Apps. Some phones call it Application Manager.
- Find Instagram. Tap it in the list.
- Tap Storage and cache. The name varies a little by phone.
- Tap Clear cache. Leave Clear storage alone unless you want to log out.
Norton's 2025 guide gives the same path: "Go to Settings, choose Apps, then find and tap Instagram from the list." A YouTube guide from April 2026 adds the one rule that matters: "Clear cache only (do not clear data)," so you stay logged in.
How do you clear Instagram cache on iPhone?
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Offload App | Removes the app, keeps its data |
| Delete App | Removes the app and its data |
| Reinstall | Starts with a clean cache |

Go to Settings, then General, then iPhone Storage, and tap Instagram. Apple says Delete "removes the app and its related" data, while Offload keeps it. So delete the app, then install it again from the App Store and log back in. Your posts, followers and messages live on Instagram's servers, so they'll all still be there. AirTalk Wireless sums up the difference: "Android offers dedicated cache control, while iOS doesn't have the same per-app button."
How do you clear the cache inside Instagram?
Instagram keeps a browser cache for links you open in the app. Its Help Center says to open a link, then "Tap Clear cookies and cache in the top right, then tap Clear browsing data to confirm." That "will clear cookies, cache and storage" from the in-app browser. It doesn't touch the rest of the app.
Your search history is separate again. The Help Center steps for clearing it start in Accounts Center: "Tap Meta Account," then find your searches. Our guide on turning off active status covers another privacy switch.
What happens when you clear Instagram cache?
The app throws away saved copies of images and videos and fetches them again. Social Champ's October 2026 guide says "The feed may load a little slower at first. That's normal," because the app is downloading fresh copies. You don't lose posts, messages or your login when you clear only the cache on Android. On iPhone, reinstalling means you'll need your password, so check you know it first.
People usually clear the cache when the app freezes, shows old content or uses too much storage. If it keeps acting up after that, update the app.
If you post on Instagram, Hclout's free tier gives 12 free Instagram likes and 100 free Instagram views on a public post, with no password, on the free page. A short Cloudflare check runs before each claim.
