Instagram Search History: How to See and Clear It

Accounts Center, then Your information and permissions, then Search history. Delete one search, auto-delete after 3 days, and reset suggestions.

To clear your Instagram search history, go to your profile, open the menu and tap Accounts Center. Some versions call it Meta Account. Then tap Your information and permissions, then Search history, and clear all searches. To remove one search, open the search bar and tap Clear next to it. Instagram also deletes old searches on its own after 30 days by default, and you can make that as short as 3 days.

We read Instagram's Help Center as Google showed it on October 23, 2026, plus guides from Security.org (June 2025) and Lifehacker (February 2026).

"Instagram search history" gets about 27,100 searches a month, up 15%. "How to clear instagram search history" gets another 8,100.

How do you clear your Instagram search history?

Instagram's Help Center gives these steps:

  1. "Tap Profile or your profile picture in the bottom right to go to your profile."
  2. Tap the menu, then Accounts Center. The Help Center's US page calls it Meta Account.
  3. Tap Your information and permissions, then Search history.
  4. Clear all searches, then confirm.

On a computer, click More in the bottom left, then Settings, then Accounts Center, an Instagram reel from March 2024 shows. The rest of the path is the same.

It isn't always instant. "It could take up to 24 hours for the platform to clear your search history," Security.org's guide says, citing Instagram.

Use the search bar. "Clear a recent search by tapping Clear next to the search item," the Help Center says. "Clear all of your recent searches by tapping Clear All in the top right."

Can Instagram delete your searches automatically?

Yes. In the same Search history screen, tap Keep searches for and pick a period.

Security.org, June 5, 2025, and Lifehacker, February 27, 2026.

Lifehacker's February 2026 guide calls 3 days "the minimum time for automatically deleting your searches." A 2025 video shows the same setting starting at 30 days.

How do you see your Instagram search history?

It's the same path: Accounts Center, Your information and permissions, then Search history. Your past searches are listed there, so you'll see them before you clear anything. The search bar also shows your most recent ones.

Why do the same suggestions keep showing up?

Clearing your searches doesn't reset what Instagram recommends. That's a separate tool. Go to your profile, open the menu, and "Below What you see, tap Content preferences," the Help Center says. Then tap Reset suggested content and confirm.

Instagram announced it on November 19, 2024, so people could "completely reset content suggestions across Explore, Reels and Feed," its announcement says.
