How to Delete Your Reddit Account
Delete your Reddit account on the web or in the app. Your posts and comments stay unless you delete them first, and your username can't be used again.
To delete your Reddit account on a computer, open Account Settings, scroll to the Advanced section and click Delete Account. Enter your details, tick "I understand that deleted accounts aren't recoverable," and click Delete. In the app, it's under Settings. Before you go, know that "Deleting your account doesn't delete any posts or comments you've made," as Reddit puts it.

Reddit then starts "a deletion process which commences within 90 days to safely remove or anonymize your account from our servers."
What should you do before you delete?
- Delete the posts and comments you don't want left. Reddit says you "need to delete them before you delete your account." On reddit.com, click your profile icon, open your profile, pick Posts or Comments, click the three-dot menu on each one and select Delete.
- Download your data if you want it. Reddit's data request form sends a copy, but "It may take up to 30 days to prepare your data."
- Cancel Reddit Premium. Deleting won't cancel it. Paid with Apple? Cancel in the App Store. Paid through Google Play? Cancel there. Paid by card or PayPal? Use the Reddit Premium section of your Account Settings. Do it "at least 24 hours before your subscription ends." There are "No partial refunds."
- Disconnect Google or Apple sign-in. If you signed up that way, click disconnect in the Account authorization section of your settings. Reddit asks you to create a password if you don't have one.
Got years of posts? Reddit says you can email redditdatarequests@reddit.com from your verified address, or use its request form. It warns that third-party deletion tools "aren't officially supported and may not work as intended." Deleted posts and comments can't be restored.

Why won't Reddit let you delete your account?
Reddit lists these fixes for deletion errors:
- Check your username and password. If you're unsure of the password, reset it first.

- On the web, clear your cookies, turn off browser extensions, or try a private window.

Can you deactivate a Reddit account?
Reddit's help center only describes deleting. Some older guides tell you to "Click Deactivate Account." Reddit's button today reads Delete Account, and a deleted account "can't be reactivated." If you might come back, just log out.
Can you recover a deleted Reddit account?
No. "Once you delete your account, it's removed from Reddit and our administrators won't be able to bring it back for you," Reddit says.
