How to Post on Reddit

Post on Reddit from the web or the app, then fix the usual blocks: karma and account-age rules, the 'You're doing that too much' filter and AI rule checks.

To post on Reddit, click Create at the top right on reddit.com, or tap the Create icon in the app. Pick a community, add a title and your text, link, image or video, then click Post. Check the community's rules first, as Reddit's help tells you to. Some communities don't let new accounts post at all.

We read Reddit's help center through its public API on October 24, 2026.

About 6,600 people search "how to post on reddit" each month. Another 880 search the "You're doing that too much" error, up 70% in recent months.

How do you post on Reddit from a computer?

  1. Click Create at the top right. On a community page, the Create a post button sits to the right of the community's name.
  2. If you started from the home page, pick a community from the dropdown.
  3. Add a title, then your post. Reddit asks for a title that "accurately summarizes your content."
  4. Add a link, image, video or AMA if you want one. "Not all communities allow all options," Reddit notes.
  5. Mark it NSFW, or add a spoiler tag, if it needs one.
  6. Click Post.

On old Reddit, use "submit a new link or submit a new text post" in the sidebar.

How do you post in the Reddit app?

  1. Tap the Create icon. It's at the bottom of the screen on Android, at the top right on iPhone, and inside each community.
  2. Add a title and your post. The app also offers polls.
  3. Add any tags or flair the community asks for. NSFW and spoiler tags are in the three-dot menu.
  4. Tap Post.

Can you edit a Reddit post?

Yes, but only the body. "You can only edit a post's content and not its title," Reddit says, and an asterisk appears to show it's been changed. Open the three-dot menu at the top right of your post and choose Edit post.

Got the title wrong? You'd have to delete the post and make a new one.

Reddit Help, "Poster Eligibility Guide & Post Check" (edited October 2, 2026) and "Why am I being told, 'You're doing that too much…'?" (edited October 5, 2026), read October 24, 2026.

The eligibility guide pops up when you tap Create a post in a community you can't post in yet. It lists which rules you meet and which you don't. The exact numbers stay hidden: "Specific karma and account age thresholds used by communities aren't disclosed at this time to deter potential misuse."

The spam filter limits how often new users can post and comment. "Even earning a small amount of karma by commenting on another post within a community, can help you get past the filter," Reddit says. Paying won't help. Reddit Premium "won't affect the spam filter."

Post Check uses "a large language model (LLM)" to flag possible rule breaks before you post. It "won't stop them from posting," so the choice is yours. A moderator can still remove the post later.

How do you get past the karma and age rules?

Comment first. Karma comes from votes on your posts and comments. Redditors in r/NewToReddit suggest sorting a community by New, so your comments land on fresh posts where people see them. Our Reddit karma guide covers how it works.

Then wait. Account age is a rule some communities use, and only time fixes it.
