How to Delete Your Threads Account
Delete your Threads profile in the app without touching Instagram. It's gone 30 days after you ask, and you'll wait 90 days to sign up again.
To delete your Threads account, open the Threads app, tap your profile icon, then Menu in the top right. Tap Meta Account, then Manage account. Tap Manage next to your Threads profile, pick Deactivation or deletion, and choose to delete the profile. Your Instagram account stays. Instagram's help center says your "profile, content, likes and followers will be permanently deleted 30 days after your request is submitted."

Does deleting Threads delete your Instagram?
Not anymore. When Threads launched in July 2023, Meta said "your Threads profile can only be deleted by deleting your Instagram account," PetaPixel reported. Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, posted the fix on November 13, 2023: "To delete your Threads profile, visit Settings → Account → Delete or Deactivate Profile, then select delete."
It still works the other way around. Meta's Threads privacy policy says your profile "may be deleted at any time by deleting the account that you used to sign up with Threads." Delete Instagram, and Threads goes with it.
How do you delete your Threads account?
- Open the Threads app and tap your profile icon.
- Tap Menu in the top right.
- Tap Meta Account, then Manage account.
- Tap Manage next to your Threads profile, then Deactivation or deletion.
- Choose to delete the profile and follow the prompts.
Don't see Meta Account? Instagram's help lists a second route: Account settings, then Personal details, then Deactivation or deletion, then the profile you'd like to delete.
You'll have to do it yourself. "For security reasons, we can't delete a Threads profile for you," Instagram says. "You'll need to log in to your profile to request deletion."
What happens after you ask to delete?

The cancel option doesn't last forever. Instagram's page carries a note on the number of days you can cancel, so decide early. Once it's done, "you'll no longer be able to retrieve" the profile.
How do you deactivate Threads instead?
Deactivating hides your profile and keeps everything. The Threads Terms of Use say your information is "hidden from view by other users, but it will remain on Threads."
Follow the same steps to Deactivation or deletion. Then "Tap Deactivate profile, then tap Continue," and pick a reason. Threads' help says "You can only deactivate your profile once a week."
