Telegram Channels: How to Find, Join and Create One

Find Telegram channels with search and recommendations, join public or private ones by link, and start your own. Invite links, paid channels and stats.

A Telegram channel is a one-way feed. Only admins post, and Telegram says "channels can have an unlimited number of subscribers." You'll find public channels in Telegram's search and join them with one tap or a t.me link. Private ones need an invite link. To start your own, open the New Message menu and choose New Channel.

We read Telegram's FAQ, its channels tour, its developer docs and its blog on October 24, 2026.

About 110,000 people search "telegram channels" each month. Another 27,100 look for a "telegram channel link," and 22,200 search for "telegram channel search."

How do you find Telegram channels?

  1. Search by name or topic. "Public channels have a username. Anyone can find them in Telegram search and join," Telegram's FAQ says.
  2. Open the Channels tab in search. Since April 25, 2024, it lists the channels you follow, plus "recommended channels with similar topics."
  3. Keep scrolling. In a channel, pull up to jump to the next unread one. After your own channels run out, Telegram shows recommended ones.
  4. Follow a link. A t.me link to a public channel or post opens it in Telegram, and highlights the post.

Recommendations come from what you already read. They're "based only on the general topic of channels you already subscribe to," Telegram says.

You can also browse public channels without the app. Their contents "can be seen on the Web without a Telegram account and are indexed by search engines," Telegram's tour says. Add /s/ after t.me to see a channel's posts in a browser, as in t.me/s/telegram.

Private channels won't show up in search. You'll need the owner to add you, or an invite link.

How do you join a Telegram channel?

Open a public channel from search or its link and tap Join. Private channels open from their invite link. Admins can add rules to those links:

Invite link settingWhat it does
Expiration dateThe link stops working after a set time
Usage limitOnly a set number of people can join with it
Join requestsAn admin has to approve you first
Monthly feeYou pay in Telegram Stars every month to stay in

Telegram developer docs, "Invite links," and Telegram blog, August 14, 2024, read October 24, 2026.

Paid channels arrived on August 14, 2024. Creators "can now make special invite links that allow joining a channel in exchange for a monthly payment in Telegram Stars," Telegram announced. Our Telegram Stars guide explains the currency.

Once you're in, you can scroll back. "New subscribers can see the entire message history in a channel once they join," the FAQ says. Other subscribers can't see you there either. "The subscriber list is only visible to the channel owner and admins," Telegram's tour says.

How do you create a Telegram channel?

  1. Start a new channel. On an iPhone, tap the new message icon in Chats, then New Channel. On Android, tap the pencil icon in the chat list, then New Channel.
  2. Add a name, a photo and a description.
  3. Choose private or public. New channels start private. Edit the profile to make one public, and it gets a username and a t.me link.
  4. Invite your first subscribers. You can add the first 200 people yourself. "Once the subscriber count reaches 200, the channel is on its own," the FAQ says.
  5. Add admins if you need help. You set each admin's rights one by one.

Then set up the extras. A linked discussion group adds a comment button under each post. You can also turn on reactions, schedule posts, send silent ones, pin messages and go live "for an unlimited number of viewers."

Share your link with care. "Please do not send channel links (or other unsolicited messages) to strangers," Telegram asks. If people report you, "you may be banned from contacting other people, however good your intentions."

Telegram channel or group?

Use a channel to broadcast and a group to talk. Groups "support communities of up to 200,000 members," Telegram's FAQ says, while a channel's subscriber count has no cap. In a channel, a post "is signed with the channel's name and photo and not your own."

What do the view counts mean?

Every channel post shows how many times it's been seen, forwarded copies included. The numbers are rough, Telegram says. "After a short while (around 4 days), Telegram will forget that you've seen a post and will count you again if you navigate to it." Our page on Telegram post views goes deeper.

What do channel owners get?

  • Statistics. Telegram's tour says detailed stats open up "for channels with more than 500 subscribers." Its developer docs call the limit "a server-side config," so it can change.
  • Ad revenue. Since April 2024, owners of eligible channels get 50% of the revenue from ads shown in them, Telegram says, with withdrawals on Fragment.
  • Star Reactions and subscriptions. Since August 14, 2024, fans can send Stars with a reaction or pay monthly to join. Paid reactions sit under Channel Settings, then Reactions, then Enable Paid Reactions.
  • Verification. Public figures and organizations can request a blue badge through @VerifyBot.

To make a paid link, go to Channel Settings, then Channel Type, then Manage Invite Links. Create a new link and turn on Require Monthly Fee.

Frequently asked questions

How many subscribers can a Telegram channel have?

As many as it can get. Telegram says there's no limit.

Can other subscribers see that I joined a channel?

No. Only the owner and admins see the subscriber list.

How do I find private Telegram channels?

You can't search for them. You need an invite link or an admin to add you.

Can I read a Telegram channel without the app?

Public ones, yes. Their posts show on the web, at t.me/s/ followed by the channel's username.

How many people can I add to my channel myself?

The first 200. After that, people have to join through your link or search.

Why does my channel's view count look high?

Views include forwarded copies, and Telegram counts a viewer again after about 4 days.
