TikTok Business Account: Switching and What Changes
A TikTok business account adds business tools and limits you to commercial sounds. How to switch, how to switch back, and what business verification adds.
A TikTok business account is a public profile with tools for brands: performance metrics, audience insights and creative tools, in TikTok's words. You switch to one in the app's settings, and you can switch back. The trade-off is music. On a business account, TikTok's sound picker shows only songs from its Commercial Music Library, a library of 1 million pre-cleared tracks.
We read TikTok's business help center on October 24, 2026. TikTok has retired its old article on switching, so the switching steps below come from web searches, labeled as such.
About 18,100 people search "tiktok business account" each month, and 14,800 search for a "tiktok creator account."
How do you switch to a TikTok business account?
- Go to your Profile and tap the menu, the three lines.
- Open Settings and privacy, then Account.
- Choose the option to switch to a Business Account.
- Pick the category that fits your business and tap Next.
Those are the steps TikTok's help article gave, as a web search showed it. Anyone with a personal TikTok account can switch.
Your tools then live in Business suite. Personal accounts keep theirs under Creator tools, TikTok's Promote guide says.
What's the catch with music?
The sound picker changes. "If you use a Business Account, when you start a new video and click on Add Sound, you will only see sounds from the Commercial Music Library," TikTok says. Personal accounts see every sound and can pick Commercial Sounds from a dropdown.
TikTok's rule for businesses is plain. "Businesses cannot use the general music library for commercial usage." That covers organic posts, duets, reacts and stitches too. The Commercial Music Library has "1 million songs," across all styles and regions, "free for businesses."
So if your content leans on trending songs, think before you switch. You can filter the library by placement, theme, genre, mood and duration, and up to 10,000 sounds show at a time.
What are the types of TikTok accounts?
TikTok's own list, last updated May 2026:
| Account | What it is | Who it's for |
|---|---|---|
| Personal | "The most common basic account" | General TikTok users |
| Business (general) | A public profile with metrics, insights and creative tools | Businesses wanting commercial tools |
| Verified Business | A business account that passed business verification | Businesses needing tools like destination links |
| Blue-V Verified Business | A business account with TikTok's verified badge | Official entities and public figures |
| Organization | An account controlled by a verified organization | Teams that need shared, secure access |
| TikTok for Business | The login for TikTok's ad and business tools | Advertisers |
| Ads Manager | Where ads get built, run and measured | People running ads |
| Business Center | A hub for an organization's ad accounts and payments | Agencies and larger teams |

Business Center gets its own searches, about 90,500 a month. It's separate from a business profile in the app. "You need a TikTok for Business account to access Business Center," TikTok says.
Can you switch back to a personal account?
Yes. Follow the same steps and choose to switch to a personal account. You'll lose the business features, as a web search of TikTok's help showed:
- Your link in bio, app download link, email, address and phone number stop showing.
- Business analytics go away, though you keep your past analytics.
- Any violations you got on the business account still count.
What does business verification add?
Business verification is optional, and accounts "of all types and sizes can apply," TikTok says. It's a check that your business is real. It's separate from the blue checkmark, which TikTok keeps for "high-profile accounts such as celebrities and major brands."
A Verified Business Account gets extra tools:
- Messaging and lead generation, including automatic lead collection from messages
- Destination links, so you can attach a website or app download link to videos or your profile
- A public business profile, with a Verified badge in Business suite
- Audience geo-targeting
TikTok listed 86 markets for business verification in its June 2026 article, the US, UK, Germany, Brazil and Japan among them. Only Verified Business Accounts can post about regulated goods like alcohol, and only in approved industries and countries, with age limits.
Keep it clean afterward. If TikTok's systems catch violations, it can put a verified account into re-verification. A manually verified account then gets a 30-day trial and needs zero violations to get its status back.
Should you use a business account?
It depends on how you post. A business account makes sense if you sell something, want contact buttons and links, or plan to run ads and Promote campaigns. A personal account suits you better if you rely on trending songs, since a business account's sound picker only offers commercial tracks.
TikTok says using its general music library to promote a business on a personal account puts you "at risk of copyright infringement," as a web search showed it. So the music rule follows the business, whichever account you use.
Frequently asked questions
How do I switch to a business account on TikTok?
Go to Profile, the three lines, Settings and privacy, then Account, and choose to switch to a Business Account.
Can I use trending songs on a TikTok business account?
Only songs in the Commercial Music Library. That's what a business account's sound picker shows.
Can I switch back to a personal account?
Yes, the same way. You'll lose business features like the link in bio and business analytics.
Is business verification the same as the blue checkmark?
No. Business verification checks that a business is real. The blue checkmark is for high-profile accounts.
What's TikTok Business Center?
A separate hub for managing ad accounts, people and payments. It needs a TikTok for Business account.
What's a TikTok creator account?
TikTok's account list doesn't include one. Creator tools sit inside personal accounts, while business accounts use Business suite.
