TikTok videos run up to 10 minutes recorded or 60 minutes uploaded, at 9:16. Data on 8 million videos shows 2 to 3 minutes gets the most median views.
TikTok videos are vertical, at a 9:16 ratio, and the standard full-HD size is 1080 x 1920 pixels. "Videos you record in TikTok can be up to 10 minutes long," TikTok's support center says, while uploads can run "up to 60 minutes long." For views, longer did better in 2026: Socialinsider's study of 8,000,795 brand videos found 2 to 3 minute videos got the most median views, 11,136.

How long can TikTok videos be?
TikTok sets two limits. Recorded in the app, a video can be up to 10 minutes. Uploaded from your phone or computer, it can be up to 60 minutes, TikTok's support center says. The shortest end starts at 3 seconds, Socialinsider notes.

What size should a TikTok video be?
Vertical works best. TikTok's own ad specs list three shapes, with 9:16 marked as recommended:

Those are minimums. For a sharp 9:16 video, 1080 x 1920 is "the standard full-HD size," as Sked Social puts it. The same TikTok ad specs cap ad videos at 500 MB, with a bitrate of at least 516 kbps, and accept .mp4, .mov, .mpeg, .3gp and .avi files. Those numbers are for ads; the support pages we saw don't list a file size for regular posts.

It depends on what you want. If it's likes and comments, the 15 to 30 second range had the best engagement rate, 6.00%. If it's views, the picture flips. Videos of 2 to 3 minutes got a median 11,136 views, more than 11 times what 15 to 30 second videos got, Socialinsider found. From 30 seconds on, views climb with length up to 3 minutes, then dip slightly past it.
Why do longer videos get more views? Socialinsider ties it to watch time: views "are highly influenced by the total watch time," so a longer video that holds people gets pushed further. It "only works if the content earns that length," the study adds.
