How to Duet on TikTok, and How to Turn Duets On

To Duet a TikTok video, tap the Share button on the side of that video, tap Duet, then record your half next to the original. 3. Add effects if you want, then record your side.

Your video plays next to the original on a split screen, so the original keeps playing while you react, sing along or add your part. When you're done, edit and post it like any other video.

How do you turn on Duets for your own videos?

You choose who can Duet with you in your account's privacy settings. TikTok's support center lists "Everyone" and "Friends" as choices there. You can also set it for a single video before you post, and TikTok's own help says an "allow reuse of content" setting controls Duet too.

Once someone Duets you, their settings take over for their video. TikTok's support center says that person's privacy settings "will determine who can watch, comment on, download" the Duet they post.

Why can't you Duet a video on TikTok?

There are a few usual reasons:

• The creator turned Duet off. If Duet isn't in the Share menu, that video doesn't allow it.
• The creator is under 16. Since January 13, 2021, TikTok has made Duet and Stitch "available on content created by users age 16 and over only," its newsroom says.
• The creator only allows Friends. If you aren't friends on TikTok, you won't see the option.
