Can Buying Followers Get You Shadowbanned on Instagram?
Instagram calls it recommendation eligibility and shows it in Account Status. What bought followers can change, how to check your account, dated October 2026.
Instagram's own term is "eligible for recommendation." Since December 2022 its Account Status page has shown business and creator accounts whether their posts "may be eligible to be recommended to non-followers." Bought followers can play into that. Instagram said in 2018 it removes "inauthentic likes, follows and comments from accounts that use third-party apps to boost their popularity." It doesn't publish what makes one account lose that status, so the useful move is to check Account Status yourself.

People still search the other word. "shadowban" gets about 74,000 searches a month worldwide, and "shadowban test" about 14,800. "instagram account status" gets about 1,600.

What do the ranking answers say?
Mostly sellers, and they split. Virallized says "An outright ban for a follower purchase alone is rare, and we would be lying if we said otherwise." Kraken Socials says buying "violates the terms of every major platform." A Reddit thread from February 2025 warns that buying fake followers "could result in a shadow ban." None of them can see inside Instagram's systems, and neither can we.
