Can You Get Verified With Bought Followers?

No. Instagram has two routes to the verified badge in 2026, and neither one counts your followers. The free route asks if you're notable, a "well-known, highly searched for" person or brand, and the application leaves out paid or promotional press. The paid route is an identity check: Meta Verified from $11.99 a month on the web, or Meta One's Essential bundle from $14.99.

Instagram's help center now says so itself: "Some verified accounts are owned by a notable person, brand, or entity, while others are subscribed to Meta Verified." It adds that "Previously, the verified badge also required the person or brand to be notable and unique," so the badge now means two different things.

What does the free route ask for?

To request a badge, Instagram's help center says "you must be a public figure, celebrity or brand and meet certain account and eligibility" requirements. Its list starts with "Authentic: Represent a real person, registered business or entity" and "Unique: Represent the unique presence of the person or business," as Google shows it.

Notability is the hard part. Shopify's guide of May 2026 describes it as representing a "well-known, highly searched for" person or brand. "The application form states that paid or promotional content will not be considered, so sponsored coverage earns you nothing," Neal Schaffer wrote in his August 2026 update.

Instagram replies within 30 days, by his account. If it says no, Shopify's guide says "you can apply again in 30 days," so a refusal isn't the end of it.

What does the paid route ask for?

An identity check. Meta's Essential bundle, announced on September 15, 2026, includes "a verified badge, verified channel on WhatsApp Business app, and impersonation protection," each "pending successful verification." Meta Verified on its own is "generally available in most regions for USD $11.99" on the web, as Google shows meta.com, and costs $14.99 a month in the Instagram app in the US.

Neither price depends on how many followers you have. "The paid one is an identity check wrapped in a features bundle," as Neal Schaffer puts it.

Why don't bought followers help?

Because neither route looks for them. The free route turns on whether people search for you and write about you, outside Instagram. The paid route turns on your ID. A follower count isn't on either list.

They can add risk, too. Instagram's Community Guidelines say "Help us stay spam-free by not artificially collecting likes, followers, or shares," as Google showed them on October 23, 2026. Instagram also said in 2018 that it would begin "removing inauthentic likes, follows and comments from accounts that use third-party apps to boost their popularity," so a bought count can drop.
