How to Cancel Spotify Premium
Cancel Spotify Premium on your account page: Manage your plan, then Cancel subscription. When Premium ends, trial and family rules, and still-charged fixes.
To cancel Spotify Premium, log in to your account page on spotify.com, go to "Manage your plan," and select "Cancel subscription." "Your Premium stays until your next billing date, then your account switches to free," Spotify's support page says. You keep your playlists and saved music, and you can still listen with ads.
We read Spotify's support pages on canceling, billing and charges on October 24, 2026. Spotify last updated its cancel page on May 13, 2026.
About 74,000 people search "how to cancel spotify premium" each month, and 60,500 more search "cancel spotify premium."
How do you cancel Spotify Premium step by step?
- Open spotify.com in a browser and log in to your account page.
- Go to "Manage your plan."
- Select "Cancel subscription" and confirm.
- Check that you reached the confirmation message.
Spotify also offers a cancellation form you can fill in and send, linked from the same support page.
Why can't you cancel in the iPhone app?
Because the app doesn't sell Premium. "Due to Apple restrictions, you can't subscribe to Premium through the app for iPhone and iPad," Spotify says, so the plan lives on your account page. Open spotify.com in Safari or any browser on your phone and follow the steps above.
How do you cancel a Family or Duo plan?
Only the plan manager can. The manager follows the same steps, and Spotify asks them to warn everyone first, since members "lose their Premium benefits starting from the next payment date." On a Family plan, "any managed accounts will move to our free, ad-supported plan."
If you're a member, canceling does something different. "Following the steps above will remove your account from the plan, but won't cancel it," Spotify says. To stop the payment, the manager has to cancel or change the payment method. If you'd rather switch to a cheaper plan, our Spotify Premium price guide compares them.
What if there's no cancel option?
Then someone else bills you. "This means your plan is associated with a partner company (ex. your mobile or internet provider)," Spotify says. Open "Manage your plan," check Payment, and use the partner's contact link to cancel with them.
If you pay through Google Play, a Google Play community answer from March 2026 says to cancel in the Play Store, under your profile icon, then "Payments & subscriptions."
What happens if you cancel a free trial?
It ends at once. "If you cancel during a zero-priced free trial period, your account will switch over to our free service immediately," Spotify says. And "Zero-priced free trials can't be reactivated." If you want the rest of the trial, cancel close to its end date, but before it bills.
Why were you charged after canceling?
Check your account page under Payment. Spotify's own table explains what you'll see:
| Your account page shows | What it means |
|---|---|
| The date your next payment is due | The cancel didn't go through. Try again and reach the confirmation |
| The date your account switches to free | It worked. You likely canceled just after a payment, and you won't be charged again |
| Spotify free | This account isn't billed. You may be paying on another account |
| A partner company | That company bills you, so contact it |
Spotify Support, "Canceled but still charged," read October 24, 2026.
If the charges come from an account you can't find, try every way you might have signed up. Spotify notes there are "a few ways to sign up, ex. with email, phone number, Apple, or Google." It also suggests checking that family or friends haven't used your card.
Watch out for fake help, too. On October 24, 2026, one result in Google's top 10 for this search was a "Spotify Cancellation Guide" PDF on an unrelated organization's website, headed by a phone number. Spotify's own help page points you to your account page or its cancel form, so use those.
When should you cancel?
Before your next billing date. "Your billing cycle starts on the date you subscribed," Spotify says, and your billing date shows at the top of your account page. In the app, it's under Settings and privacy, then Account, then Billing.
You can't move that date, but there's a workaround: cancel, let the plan run out to free, then resubscribe on the day you want to be charged. On a Duo or Family plan, you'd have to invite members again.
