To change your name on Facebook, open Menu, then Settings & privacy, Settings, and Accounts Center. Tap Profiles, pick your account, tap Name, type the new name and tap Review change, then Save changes. Facebook's Help Center gives those exact steps. Two rules apply: the name has to be "the name you use in everyday life," and "If you change your name, you can't change it again for 60 days."

We read Facebook's Help Center as Google shows it on October 23, 2026. We didn't change a name on a live account.

How do you change your name on Facebook?

  1. Tap Menu. It's in the top right of the app.
  2. Open Settings. Scroll down, tap Settings & privacy, then Settings.
  3. Tap Accounts Center. That's where Facebook keeps your profile details now.
  4. Tap Profiles. Then tap your Facebook account.
  5. Tap Name. Enter your first, middle or last name.
  6. Tap Review change. Facebook shows how the name will look.
  7. Tap Save changes. The new name appears on your profile.

On a computer, a Reddit answer from April 2024, as Google shows it, gives a similar path: "Settings & Privacy / Meta Accounts Center / Personal Details."

Facebook Help Center, "What names are allowed on Facebook," as Google showed it on October 23, 2026. The examples are ours.

The Help Center lists "Symbols, numbers, unusual capitalization, repeating characters or punctuation" and "Characters from multiple languages" as not allowed. It also rules out "Titles of any kind." Facebook says it "requires everyone to provide the name they use in everyday life so that you always know who you're connecting with."

How many times can you change your name on Facebook?

Once every 60 days. The Help Center says "you can't change your name more than once in 60 days." If the button is grayed out, or Facebook won't accept the name, its page on "Reasons why you can't change your name" gives the same rule. It adds, "Don't add any unusual capitalization, punctuation, characters or random words."

If you need a change sooner, or Facebook asks you to confirm a name, it has a form called "Changing Your Name." A January 2026 video, as Google shows it, walks through uploading a photo ID there so Facebook "can review and update your name."

How do you add a nickname or maiden name?

Use Other names instead of changing your main name. The Help Center says "You can list a name on your account that's different from the name on your ID (example: maiden name, nickname, professional title)." Go to your profile, open your About info, and find Other names, then tap Add other name. Your main name stays the same, so the 60-day rule doesn't come into it.

How do you change a Facebook Page name?

A Page has its own name, separate from your profile. The Help Center says that "If you have Facebook access to a Page, you can switch into your Page and request a change to your Page's name." The word "request" matters: Facebook reviews Page name changes. "How to change facebook page name" gets about 60,500 searches a month by itself, and the reviews are why people get stuck.
