How to Change Your Language on Facebook

To change the language on Facebook, tap Menu, then Settings & privacy, then Settings, and tap Language and region. Then pick a language under "Language for buttons, titles and other text." If Facebook suddenly shows a language you didn't choose, it may be following your phone. "When you create a Facebook account, Facebook appears in the same language as the one you choose in your device's language settings," its help center says.
We read Facebook's help center as Google showed it on October 23, 2026, along with a Facebook how-to post from April 2026. Facebook's site blocks our reader.

How do you change the language on Facebook?
Facebook's help center gives these steps:
- "Tap Menu in the top right of Facebook."
- "Scroll down and tap Settings & privacy, then tap Settings."
- "Tap Language and region and select the language you want."
Where's Menu? It depends on your phone. One version of the help page says "top right," and another says "top left." A Facebook how-to post from April 2026 puts it simply: "Tap the menu icon (☰) at the top or bottom."
On the Language and region screen, the same post says to "Tap 'Language for buttons, titles and other text'" and then "Choose your preferred language (e.g. English US, English UK, French, Spanish)."
What if Facebook is in a language you can't read?
Follow the same taps by position. The menu icon (☰) looks the same in every language, and Settings & privacy sits near the bottom of that menu. From there, Settings, then Language and region, gets you to the list of languages. If you're stuck, a friend's phone set to your language can show you which spot to tap.
How do you change the language on a computer?
The same Language and region page sits under Settings & privacy, then Settings. Lifewire's older guide starts from "the arrow (Account) on the right side of the Facebook menu bar." Newer layouts show your profile picture there instead.
How do you turn translations on or off?
They're in the same settings. "You can turn off translation options for posts and comments in your language settings," Facebook's help center says. If the Translate option is gone from posts, check there first. Facebook's help center says that if you don't see translation options below a post in another language, "make sure that translation options are turned on." A member of a Facebook group gave the same advice in January 2026: "check the Language and Region options, the translation feature may be turned off."
