How to Delete Comments on Instagram, One or Many
Tap and hold a comment, then Delete. Clear many of your own comments in Your activity, remove comments on your posts, and know when hiding beats deleting.
To delete a comment on Instagram, tap Comments below the post, tap and hold the comment, and tap Delete. That's the route in Instagram's help center, and it works on your own comments anywhere and on anyone's comment under your own posts. To clear many comments you've left, go to Your activity, then Interactions, then Comments, select them, and tap Delete. Instagram doesn't notify anyone either way, BrandBastion's guide says.

How do you delete a comment on Instagram?
Instagram's help center gives three steps:
- "Tap Comments below the post or tap any comment."
- "Tap and hold the comment you'd like to delete."
- "Tap Delete."
A February 2026 Instagram tutorial shows the same press and hold, then a tap on the trash can icon. There's a shortcut on iPhone too. "Instagram usually lets you swipe left on the comment to reveal Delete," Unpost says. On Instagram.com, you hover over the comment, open its options, and choose Delete.
How do you delete many comments you've made?
Use Your activity. Unpost gives the path:
- Open your profile and tap the menu in the top corner.
- Open Your activity, then Interactions, then Comments.
- Use Sort & Filter if you see it.
- Select the comments you want to remove.
- Tap Delete and confirm.
Instagram's help center calls this "Delete multiple comments you've made," and its Your Activity page says that's where you "Review and delete likes, comments and sticker responses you've made." Unpost notes that "the exact menu labels can vary a little by app version and device." The same list is where you see your comment history, which about 590 people a month search for.
How do you delete comments on your own post?
On a post you own, the same tap and hold works on anyone's comment. For several at once, BrandBastion says you can "open Manage comments from the post to select multiple comments and Hide, Delete, or Report them at once."
Your own posts are the limit. On someone else's post, you can only delete what you wrote. Unpost's guide is clear that it "does not claim you can delete other people's comments on someone else's post."

Hiding is quieter. With a hidden comment, "the commenter can still see their post, but the public cannot," BrandBastion says. A deleted one is gone for good: "After you delete a comment, no one (including the initial poster) will ever be able to access it again." The writer may also notice. "If the user revisits the post, their comment will be gone," BrandBastion adds.

How do you delete comments on your Instagram story?
Instagram's help center has its own steps: "Tap your profile picture to view your Story," then "Tap Activity in the bottom left," then tap Options next to the comment and delete it.
Why can't you delete a comment?
Start with the app. "Make sure the app is updated," a Reddit answer from February 2024 says, and it suggests deleting from Your activity when the post itself won't cooperate. Also check whose post it is: under someone else's post, you can only delete your own comments.
