How to Turn Off Comments on TikTok

Turn off Allow comments on one video, or set Who can comment to No one for all of them. Why teens can't pick Everyone, filters, and comments on a LIVE.

To turn off comments on one TikTok video, open it, tap the three dots, tap Privacy settings, and switch off Allow comments. To turn them off on every video, go to Settings and privacy, then Privacy, then Comments, and set who can comment to No one. NapoleonCat's July 2026 guide calls No one the setting "which basically equals having your comments turned off." You can switch either one back on any time.

We read TikTok's newsroom posts from 2019 and 2021, and guides from NapoleonCat (updated September 29, 2026) and Feedguardians (updated March 8, 2026), through our server on October 23, 2026. TikTok's help center blocks our reader, so we read it as Google showed it.

How do you turn off comments on a TikTok video?

Before you post, TikTok's help center gives these steps: "In the TikTok app, create your post," then "On the Post screen, tap the More options" button, and turn off Allow comments.

On a video that's already up:

  1. Open the video and tap the three dots on the right.
  2. Scroll the menu sideways until you see Privacy settings.
  3. Tap it and switch off Allow comments.

That's NapoleonCat's route. Feedguardians' guide shows Who can comment there instead, with a Turn off commenting option. "Available settings may vary depending on your TikTok app version," one July 2026 tutorial warns. Either way, viewers then see "Comments are turned off" under the video.

How do you turn off comments on all your TikTok videos?

TikTok's help center gives the path: "In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom," tap the menu, "then select Settings and privacy," and "Tap Privacy, then tap Comments." Under who can comment, you'll see three choices:

  • Everyone, including people who don't follow you.
  • Friends, which NapoleonCat describes as people you follow who follow you back.
  • No one, which turns comments off.

It's been this way for years. "You can let anyone comment, restrict it to friends, or turn off comments completely," TikTok's newsroom wrote in April 2019. To turn comments back on, pick Everyone or Friends again.

Why can't you pick Everyone?

If you're between 13 and 15, it's TikTok's rule. In January 2021, TikTok said users aged 13 to 15 "can now choose between Friends or No One for their account; the Everyone comment setting is being removed."

TikTok can also tighten things without asking. NapoleonCat says it "sometimes tightens comment access on its own, for example after you block a spammer, or when teen-safety defaults kick in." Its fix: check Privacy, then Comments, then look in Activity Center, then Manage Comments, "for videos with comments restricted individually."

How do you filter comments instead?

Filters keep comments on while catching the bad ones. In Privacy, then Comments, NapoleonCat lists three:

  • Filter all comments, which hides them until you approve each one.
  • Filter spam and offensive comments.
  • Filter comments with keywords you pick.

To let a held comment through, tap Review filtered comments. "Comments that include blocked terms won't be published unless you approve them," Shopify's September 2026 guide says. It also covers Creator Care Mode, which, in TikTok's words as Shopify quotes them, "filters comments that are inappropriate, offensive, or contain profanity, as well as those from people whose comments were previously reported, deleted, or disliked."

What happens to the comments you already have?

Feedguardians says turning off comments hides the existing ones from everyone, you included, and that they come back when you turn comments on again. It also says TikTok doesn't notify anyone when you switch comments off.

How do you turn off comments on a TikTok LIVE?

Before or during a LIVE, open its settings and tap Comments. NapoleonCat says you can turn Allow comments on or off, filter offensive comments, block words, and "Mute comments for a selected duration," up to the whole LIVE. It adds that "the setting you select will stay on for your next Live video," so check it before you go live again.

Should you turn comments off?

Comments are how a video gets talked about, so a filter or Friends often does the job better. Turning them off makes sense when trolls or spam pile up. For the rest of your settings, see making TikTok private, and on other apps, turning off comments on Facebook and on Instagram.

Hclout sells TikTok comments, so weigh that the way you'd weigh any seller. Its free tier gives 10 free TikTok comments on a public video, with no password, on the free page. A short Cloudflare check runs before each claim.

Frequently asked questions

Can you turn off comments on just one TikTok?

Yes. Open it, tap the three dots, then Privacy settings, and switch off Allow comments.

How do you turn comments back on?

Switch Allow comments on again for that video, or set who can comment back to Everyone or Friends.

Why do some videos say comments are limited?

Usually the creator picked Friends, or turned comments off for that video, NapoleonCat says.

Yes. They see "Comments are turned off" under the video.

Do keyword filters delete comments?

They hold them back. A filtered comment won't show unless you approve it, Shopify and NapoleonCat say.
