How to Delete or Deactivate a TikTok Account

To delete your TikTok account, tap Profile, then the ☰ menu, then Settings and privacy. Tap Account, then Deactivate or delete account, and choose Delete account permanently. TikTok then hides the account for 30 days. Log back in during that time and you can cancel. After 30 days, the account and its data are gone. If you only want a break, deactivate instead. TikTok Support calls that "a temporary hold" you can undo "anytime."

How do you delete a TikTok account?
- Open your profile and the menu. TikTok Support says to "tap Profile at the bottom," then the ☰ button.
- Tap Settings and privacy, then Account. Then tap Deactivate or delete account.
- Choose Delete account permanently. TikTok asks why you're leaving, and you can skip it.
- Download your data if you want it. xVPN says the flow shows a "Download your TikTok data" page before you confirm.
- Confirm with the code. TikTok sends a verification code to finish the request.

xVPN says TikTok "will suspend the account for 30 days, during which time it will be invisible to the public." If you log in during that time, "TikTok will first ask if you want to reactivate." Don't tap Reactivate if you want the deletion to go through.
How do you get a deleted TikTok account back?
Log in within 30 days. wikiHow says to "Restore a deleted account by logging in within 30 days of deletion," and TikTok then asks if you want to reactivate. After 30 days, it's too late. A Quora answer quoting TikTok Support says "your account and its videos and information will be deleted" by then.
Can't log in at all? NordVPN suggests emailing support@tiktok.com, and notes it "will only work within 30 days" of deactivating.
What happens to your username if you just stop using TikTok?
TikTok has an inactive account policy. Its help page says "If an account remains inactive for 180 days or more, the username may be" reset. A Reddit post quoting the policy says it may become "a randomized numeric username." So a long break without logging in can cost you the handle, even if you never deleted anything.
