Does TikTok Notify Screenshots? The October 2026 Answer
No for screenshots, screen recordings and downloads. Favorites are different: TikTok tells creators when someone favorites a video. The details.
No. TikTok doesn't tell anyone when you screenshot or screen record a video, a profile, a comment or a message. Downloading a video doesn't notify the creator either. The one action that does is adding a video to your Favorites. Since September 2022, TikTok has told creators when someone favorites their video. So "saving" a TikTok can mean two things, and only one of them sends a notice.
We read the reports and guides as Google shows them on October 23, 2026. TikTok's own help pages don't cover screenshots, and we didn't test this on an account.

EaseUS, in a September 2026 guide, says "TikTok does not currently notify another user when you screenshot standard TikTok content." ScreenSnap, which says it tested on iOS and Android in March 2026, adds that a profile screenshot "does not send any alert."
Does TikTok notify when you save a video?
It depends on which save you mean. Downloading a video to your phone stays private. MiniTool's October 2026 guide says "Downloading a video on TikTok is a private action and does not send any" notice. A Reddit answer from May 2023, as Google shows it, says creators see a share count that "includes shares to other social media and also downloads."
Favorites work differently. Digital Information World reported on September 15, 2022 that "creators will now be informed whenever their videos are bookmarked as Favorites by other users." Mashable covered the same change, as Google shows it. wikiHow's 2026 guide says creators "will always get a notification if you favorite" a video. So if you favorite a video and then remove it, the creator may already have seen the notice.
Does TikTok notify screenshots of DMs or stories?
No. TikStory America says TikTok "does not notify users if you screenshot a private message (DM) sent to you," unlike Snapchat. EaseUS lists videos, profiles and comments as covered too. That puts TikTok behind Instagram on this one point. Instagram alerts the other person in vanish mode, as our page on Instagram screenshot alerts explains.
Why does my phone say "TikTok detected" a screenshot?
Some Android phones show a short message after you screenshot inside an app. A Reddit thread from December 2024, as Google shows it, explains that it's "just letting you know that Tiktok captured an image from your device." The same reply adds, "It has nothing to do with notifying the other person." The message comes from your phone's system, so other people don't see it.
Can people see that you looked at them at all?
