Spotify lossless streams up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC on Premium. How to turn it on, all quality levels, what it needs, and why Bluetooth can't carry it.
Yes, Spotify has lossless now. Premium listeners can stream "in up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC," Spotify says. It started rolling out on September 10, 2025, and reached more than 50 markets by October 6, 2025. It's part of Premium, and you turn it on yourself, once per device.
We read Spotify's lossless announcement and four Spotify Support articles on October 24, 2026.
About 40,500 people search "spotify lossless" each month.
How do you turn on lossless on Spotify?
In the mobile or desktop app:
- Tap or click your profile picture.
- Go to Settings and privacy, then Media quality. On iPhone, Spotify's help also calls it Audio Quality.
- Choose Lossless for Wi-Fi, cellular streaming or downloads.
"You'll need to enable Lossless manually on each device," Spotify says. A Lossless label then shows in the Now Playing view and in the device picker.
On a speaker or other device: start playback, tap the device icon and pick the device. Then tap Change quality settings and select Lossless. You'll switch it from your phone, and "not all devices support lossless," Spotify notes.
What are all of Spotify's quality levels?

Lossless covers "most of the Spotify catalog," Spotify's Premium page says. It won't apply to music videos, podcasts or audiobooks. The Spotify web player doesn't offer it, either, since you can't change its quality at all.
What do you need to hear lossless?
Four things, going by Spotify's help:
- Premium. Lossless is listed "For: Premium."
- A recent app. Mobile app 9.0.58 or later, or desktop app 1.2.67 or later.
- A steady connection. Spotify recommends "1.5 to 2 Mbps for the best lossless listening experience."
- A wired or Wi-Fi path to your speakers. Spotify suggests wired headphones, or speakers over Spotify Connect.
The recording matters, too. "Lossless depends on how the music was originally recorded," Spotify's help says.
Can't tell the difference? That's normal. Spotify admits lossless "doesn't always translate to a dramatically different listening experience for everyone."
Does Spotify lossless work over Bluetooth?
Not in full. "Currently, Bluetooth doesn't provide enough bandwidth to transmit lossless audio, so the signal has to be compressed before being sent," Spotify says.
The app can still be set to lossless. The sound gets compressed on its way to Bluetooth earbuds, though. For the real thing, Spotify points to "wired headphones or speakers on a non-Bluetooth connection, like Spotify Connect." It named Sony, Bose, Samsung and Sennheiser among the Connect brands at launch.
Where is Spotify lossless available?
In more than 50 markets, Spotify said on October 6, 2025. These 12 got it first, on September 10, 2025:
Australia, Austria, Czechia, Denmark, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden, the US and the UK.
Spotify sent Premium users a notification once lossless reached them. Our guide to Spotify Premium prices covers what each Premium plan costs.
Can you download songs in lossless?
Yes. "Yes, you can!" is Spotify's whole answer. Go to Media quality and choose Lossless for downloads. Spotify then offers to update everything you've already downloaded, with an "Update to Lossless" prompt.
Lossless files are bigger, so they'll take more space. Spotify's app shows how much data each quality level needs before you choose.
