Spotify Lyrics: How to See Them and Fix Them

Spotify lyrics are free on every plan. How to see, share and translate them, keep them offline, why they're missing, and how artists add them.

Spotify shows lyrics that scroll along with the song, on the free plan and on Premium. "Lyrics are now available for Spotify users across both our free and Premium tiers," Spotify's help says. They come from Musixmatch, and Spotify says they're "viewed hundreds of millions of times each day."

We read Spotify's lyrics help, three of its newsroom posts about lyrics and its artist help on lyrics on October 24, 2026.

About 18,100 people search "spotify lyrics" each month, and 14,800 search "how to see lyrics on spotify."

How do you see lyrics on Spotify?

On a phone or tablet:

  1. Tap the Now playing bar at the bottom of the screen. On a tablet, tap the album art in the side menu.
  2. Scroll down to Lyrics.
  3. Tap the lyrics for a full-screen view.

On a computer or the web player: play a song and click the lyrics button at the bottom. Spotify's 2021 launch post described it as the microphone icon in the Now Playing bar.

On a TV or console: open the Now Playing view and select the lyrics button. Spotify's launch post listed PlayStation, Xbox, Android TV, Fire TV, Samsung, Roku and LG among them.

On phones, lyrics now also show as a preview under the album art or the Canvas clip. "Lyrics preview is on by default," Spotify says. To hide it, open the three-dot menu in Now Playing and tap Lyrics.

To share lyrics, open them full screen, tap the share button, highlight the lines you want and pick an app. Spotify's 2025 post names Instagram, Snapchat and WhatsApp among them.

To translate, tap the translate icon on the lyrics card. Translations "appear based on your device's language," and you can switch back any time. They reached more than 25 markets in 2025 before going worldwide.

To keep lyrics offline, download the song on Premium. Spotify says "the lyrics will automatically be saved too."

Why are lyrics not showing on Spotify?

Usually because that song doesn't have them on Spotify yet, or not where you are. Spotify's help gives three reasons:

  • Not every song has lyrics. "Lyrics may not be available on all songs and devices," Spotify says.
  • It depends on your country. Lyrics can vary "between markets, and across devices depending on the agreements we have in place with our rights holders."
  • They're still coming. "New lyrics are added every day, so you may find what you're looking for in the future."

Music videos don't get the lyrics preview, either. If a song's lyrics are wrong or missing and it's your song, the fix is on the artist side, below.

How do you add lyrics to your song on Spotify?

Through Musixmatch. "Musixmatch provides licensed and synced lyrics for Spotify," Spotify's artist help says, and adding them is free. Listeners can't add lyrics themselves.

Spotify gives these steps:

  1. Sign up for Musixmatch Pro. "The free tier plan is all you need."
  2. Verify your artist profile. In Roster, select Add artist and paste your Spotify artist URL. Musixmatch replies "within a few business days."
  3. Add or edit lyrics. Pick a song, select Lyrics, write them out and hit Send.
  4. Sync them. Select Sync and time each line to when its first word is sung.

Changes can take a few days to show on Spotify. A few of Spotify's writing rules: write repeated lines out in full, don't use "x2," and tag sections like #VERSE and #CHORUS. In Japan, lyrics come from PetitLyrics.
