Spotify Connect: How It Works and How to Fix It

Spotify Connect lets your phone control Spotify on a speaker, TV or console. How to use it, lossless on Connect, why a device won't show, and the fixes.

Spotify Connect lets you "use one device to remotely control listening on another," Spotify says. Your phone becomes the remote, and the music plays on a speaker, TV, console or computer. You pick the device from a list in the Spotify app.

We read five groups of Spotify Support articles on Connect, speakers, TVs, cars and supported devices on October 24, 2026.

About 22,200 people search "spotify connect" each month, and "spotify connect speakers" is up 30%.

How do you use Spotify Connect?

  1. Put your phone and the other device on the same WiFi. Spotify says that's needed the first time you connect.
  2. Open Spotify and play something.
  3. Tap the device icon at the bottom of the screen.
  4. Pick the device you want to play on.

If you pause for more than 10 minutes, "you might need to reconnect," Spotify notes. Setting up a TV or console? Our Spotify pair guide covers logging it in with a PIN.

Does Spotify Connect support lossless?

On some devices. To use it, tap the device icon while a song plays, pick the device, tap Change quality settings and select Lossless. You'll switch it from your phone, and "currently, not all devices support lossless," Spotify says. Our Spotify lossless guide has the rest.

Why isn't my device showing in Spotify Connect?

Spotify's help suggests these checks:

  • Two devices with the same name? Try each one in turn.
  • Log the device in with your Spotify account. It should then show "even if it isn't on the same WiFi."
  • Turn off Local device visibility in Settings, then Apps and devices. That lets the app see devices that aren't on your current WiFi.
  • On iPhone, allow local network access. Go to iPhone Settings, then Spotify, then Local Network, and switch it on.

The web player is stricter. It shows "devices you've already logged into, or Google Cast devices on your current network (if using Chrome)." If yours is missing there, use the Spotify app.

How do you fix Spotify Connect not working?

Work through Spotify's fixes in order:

  1. Restart the Spotify app.
  2. Restart your speaker, smart display or TV.
  3. Restart the phone or computer running Spotify.
  4. Update the Spotify app and the other device's software.
  5. Put both devices on the same WiFi.
  6. Restart your WiFi, or try a different network.

On Android TV, Spotify needs to "display over other apps." Allow it under TV Settings, then Apps, then Special app access. If a device shows "No longer works with Spotify," Spotify's help says Connect is no longer supported on it.

Why can't I change the volume with my iPhone buttons?

Apple removed that option. "Apple has discontinued the technology that enables Spotify to control volume for connected devices using the volume buttons," Spotify says. Press a volume button anyway and a slider appears at the bottom of the Spotify screen. You can also find it from the device menu in the Now Playing bar.

Why do I see someone else's speaker in Spotify Connect?

On a shared network, you may see "devices belonging to other users that were on the same network." To clean the list:

  • Show only your devices by switching on Local device visibility in Settings, then Apps and devices.
  • Remove a device with the three dots next to it, then "Log out of this device."
  • Unlink the maker's app, like Amazon Alexa, if that's how it got there.
  • Use Sign out everywhere on your account page and reset your password if you're worried.

What else plays Spotify on speakers, TVs and cars?
