"Your monthly listeners are your total listeners in the last 28 days," Spotify's help center tells artists, and that includes people who found you on playlists or radio. One fan who plays you 50 times still counts once, and that's the key to reading it. The artist with the most is Bruno Mars, at 128,438,090 on October 23, 2026, by kworb's daily chart.

What do monthly listeners mean on Spotify?

It's a count of people, not plays, over a window that moves every day. Each day, the oldest day drops out and today's listeners come in. So the number can fall even when nobody's left you. They just haven't played you in 28 days.

Spotify splits your listeners by how they've found you. Monthly active listeners "intentionally streamed your music in the last 28 days from active sources," it says, like your profile, your release pages or their own library. Programmed listeners only heard you through editorial playlists, other people's playlists, AI DJ, Discover Weekly, Radio or Autoplay. Both kinds count toward monthly listeners, so it's a mix.

The active ones are the ones you'd want more of. "On average, listeners who actively stream a song will play that artist's music 4x more in the next 6 months," Spotify says.

Rihanna's at her high point right now. Her 117,028,218 is the most kworb has logged for her since it began tracking on March 1, 2023. Bruno Mars has gone higher than anyone: kworb's peak for him is 151,079,821, and Justin Bieber's is 146,972,758.

Spotify's own newsroom marked the record. It said Bruno Mars became "the first artist to reach 150 million monthly listeners" on January 27, 2025. Before that, Wikipedia's records page says, The Weeknd was the first artist past 100 million. Taylor Swift was the first woman and second overall, and Billie Eilish the third and youngest. Kendrick Lamar was the first rapper, and Coldplay the first group.

"Most monthly listeners on spotify" gets about 12,100 searches a month, and "spotify monthly listeners" about 18,100.

Why do monthly listeners go up and down?

Because the window keeps moving. Anyone a playlist add or a viral clip brings in stays in the count for 28 days after their last play. When those plays stop, they drop out one day at a time. On kworb's latest day, Coldplay lost 242,953 listeners, the biggest one-day drop in the top 10, while Rihanna gained 145,776.

Programmed listeners count the same as fans in this number. Someone who heard you once on Autoplay is one listener, just like someone who's played your album all month.
