"Once blocked, that person can't send you Snaps or Chats, and they'll no longer see your Stories or Charms," Snapchat says. "Your Snap Map location also becomes hidden from them." They also drop out of your Search results, Best Friends list and Quick Add.
Public posts are the exception. "Snapchat users you have blocked will still be able to view content you post publicly, like Public Stories or your content on Spotlight," the support site says.
Group chats stay as they are. "Blocking them doesn't remove you from that Group," Snapchat says. You'll still see their messages there, but they can't message you privately or add you to new groups.
How do you unblock someone on Snapchat?
- "Tap your profile icon in the top of the screen"
- Tap the gear icon to open Settings.
- "Scroll down and tap 'Blocked'"
- Tap the X next to their name.
Unblocking lets them back in. They "will then be able to send you Snaps, Chats, and view your Stories and Charms," Snapchat says. Your old chats may not return, though. "If you unblock them later, you may not see all of your previous Chat history with that person," the support site warns.
Use the app for this. "Unblocking is currently unavailable on Snapchat web," wikiHow's October 2026 guide says.
How do you know if someone blocked you on Snapchat?
Snapchat won't tell you. "For legal reasons, we can't give out information about another Snapchatter," its support site says. There are signs, though. "If a Snapchatter blocks you, then you can't add them," Snapchat says. A blocked person "might realize they've been blocked if they notice they can no longer view your profile or contact you."
Those signs can mean something else. "If the account was deleted, then you can't add them" either, Snapchat notes. So you can't be sure which it is. "How to know if someone blocked you on snapchat" gets about 14,800 searches a month.
Should you block, remove or mute?
Blocking is the strongest. Removing a friend "simply takes them off your Friends list," Snapchat says, and they may still see public content you share, depending on your privacy settings. If you only want fewer updates from someone, Snapchat also lets you mute them.
Blocking also stops any Snaps between you, so a streak with that person can't continue. Our guide to Snapchat streaks covers what happens when one breaks.
