To delete your Spotify account, go to Spotify's support page "Closing your account and deleting your data" and click "Close your account and delete your data." Follow the prompts, then confirm through the email Spotify sends. If you only want to stop paying, you don't need to delete anything. Canceling Premium moves you to the free plan, where "You will still be able to listen to music in shuffle mode, with ads," Spotify says.

How do you close your Spotify account?

  1. Log in to Spotify on the web, on a computer or your phone's browser.
  2. Open Spotify's support page "Closing your account and deleting your data."
  3. Click "Close your account and delete your data."
  4. Follow the prompts. Mozilla's guide described them in 2022 as "a five-step confirmation process" that ends "with an email with a link to close your account."
  5. Open the email and confirm.

On an iPhone, open the same support page in a browser and follow the steps.

What should you do before you close it?

Download your data. "You can get a ZIP file with a copy of your personal data by using the automated Download your data tool on your Account Privacy page," Spotify says. Once the 7-day window passes, Spotify starts deleting your data.

Know what you'll lose, too. "You'll lose access to any purchased audiobooks or live tickets for future events if you close your account and delete your data," Spotify warns. If you have a Premium plan, cancel it first so the billing stops cleanly. Our guide on how to cancel Spotify Premium has the steps, including Family and Duo plans.

Can you reopen a closed Spotify account?

For a week. "After you close your account, we email you a link which you can use to reactivate it within 7 days," Spotify says. Click that link to get your account back.

After that, it's final. "After those 7 days, your account cannot be reactivated and the process to delete your data will be initiated," Spotify says.

Can you use the same email again?

Yes, but not straight away. "You can use the same email address to create a new account after 14 days from the date of closing your account," Spotify says. You'll start with an empty library.
