Snapchat Planets Order: What Each Planet Means

Snapchat planets run Mercury to Neptune and show where you rank in a friend's Best Friends list. The order, what each looks like, and how to turn it on.

Snapchat planets show where you rank in a friend's Best Friends list. Mercury means you're their number one, and Neptune means you're their eighth. The feature is called the Friend Solar System, and it's part of Snapchat+, the paid subscription. Snapchat Support says tapping the Best Friends badge "will show you which planet you are in their Solar System, with each planet representing a different position in their Best Friends list." So the planet tells you where you sit in their list.

We read Snapchat Support's page on Friend Solar Systems and Digital Trends' October 2026 guide through our server on October 23, 2026.

Snapchat Support, "How do Friend Solar Systems work?", and Digital Trends (October 14, 2026), read October 23, 2026.

Digital Trends puts it plainly: "Mercury represents the first position, while Neptune represents the eighth." The planets follow the real solar system's order from the sun, and there are only eight. Pluto's not included.

What does the Best Friends badge mean?

Snapchat Support says "'Best Friends' means they're among the eight friends you Snap and Chat with the most." The badge has "a gold ring around it" on a friend's Friendship Profile. Digital Trends adds that a Friends badge is different, and that the ranking "isn't necessarily mutual." Someone can be your Mercury while you're Saturn in their system.

How do you see your Snapchat planet?

  1. Open Snapchat and go to your friend's profile.
  2. Open their Friendship Profile.
  3. Look for the Best Friends badge with a gold ring.
  4. Tap it to see which planet you are in their Solar System.

You'll need Snapchat+ for this, and the feature has to be on.

How do you turn on the Friend Solar System?

It starts switched off. Snapchat Support says "Solar System is off by default for first time subscribers," and you can turn it on from the Snapchat+ feature management page. Digital Trends gives the steps:

  1. Tap your profile icon in the top left.
  2. Tap your Snapchat+ membership card.
  3. Find Solar System in the feature settings.
  4. Toggle it on.

Snapchat says it "can be toggled on/off at any time."

Can your Snapchat planet change?

Yes. Your planet moves as your place in their Best Friends list changes. Digital Trends says "Snapchat hasn't disclosed the exact criteria," so there's no trick beyond snapping and chatting with that person more. "Snapchat planets" gets about 1,220,000 searches a month, and "snapchat planets order" another 90,500.
