Snapchat My AI: What It Is and How to Remove It
My AI is Snapchat's chatbot, built on OpenAI and Google models. How to unpin or clear it, delete its data, and turn it off for a teen, in Snapchat's words.
My AI is Snapchat's built-in chatbot. "My AI is powered by Large Language Models like GPT models from OpenAI and Gemini models from Google," Snapchat's help center says. To get it out of your way, press and hold My AI in your Chat feed, open Chat and Notification Settings, and unpin it or clear it. Clearing doesn't delete what you've told it, though. That takes a separate step in Settings.

What is My AI on Snapchat?
It's a chatbot that lives in your Chat feed like a friend. Snapchat says it can "answer a burning trivia question, offer advice on the perfect gift for your BFF's birthday, help plan a hiking trip for a long weekend, or suggest what to make for dinner."
Snap launched it on February 27, 2023, as "an experimental feature for Snapchat+ subscribers." Its own launch post warned that "My AI is prone to hallucination and can be tricked into saying just about anything." Two months after rolling it out to everyone, Snap said "over 150 million people have sent over 10 billion messages to My AI."
| My AI | What Snap says |
|---|---|
| Launched | February 27, 2023, for Snapchat+ |
| Early use | 150 million people, 10 billion messages |
| Built on | OpenAI's GPT and Google's Gemini models |
| Your data | Kept until you delete it |
Snap newsroom posts, Snapchat's help center and Snap's privacy page, read October 23, 2026. Launch date as Google lists the post.
The help center still asks you to double-check it. My AI's answers "may include biased, incorrect, harmful, or misleading content," it says, so "you should always independently check answers provided by My AI before relying on any advice."
"Snapchat ai" gets about 12,100 searches a month, and "snapchat my ai" is up 185% in recent months.
How do you remove My AI from Snapchat?
You've got two choices: unpin it or clear it. Snapchat's help center gives these steps for unpinning:
- "Swipe right from the Camera screen to go to the Chat screen."
- "Press and hold on 'My AI.'"
- "Tap 'Chat and Notification Settings.'"
- "Tap 'Unpin Conversation.'"
To clear it instead, follow the same first three steps, then "Tap 'Clear from Chat Feed', then confirm." The help center adds a warning: "Clearing removes the conversation thread from your Chat feed. It does not delete data you've previously shared with My AI."
Do you need Snapchat+ for this? The current help article doesn't mention a subscription for unpinning or clearing.
How do you delete your My AI data?
"All the content shared with My AI is stored until you delete it," Snapchat says. You can delete a message you sent it "within 24 hours" right in the chat. For everything older:
- Tap your Profile icon, then the gear to open Settings.
- Scroll down to "Privacy Controls."
- Tap "Clear Data."
- Tap "Clear My AI Data" and confirm.
It's worth doing if you've shared much. Snap's privacy page says it uses what you share, and your location if you've turned location sharing on, "to improve Snap's products" and "to personalize your experience, including ads." It also says "we share your information with our service providers and advertising partners" to run My AI.
Can parents turn off My AI for a teen?
Yes, through Family Center. Open Family Center, scroll to Settings at the bottom, tap to expand it, and "Turn on the toggle to Disable My AI," Snapchat says. With that on, "My AI will not store or process your teen's queries, nor reply to your teen's messages."
Parents can't read the chats, though. Snap's privacy page says a trusted adult can see whether a teen has chatted with My AI, but "Trusted adults cannot see the content of your chats with My AI."
What shouldn't you use My AI for?
Snapchat's list is long. "Don't use My AI to generate political, sexual, harassing, or deceptive content, spam, malware, or content that promotes violence, self-harm, human-trafficking," the help center says. You also shouldn't share "confidential or sensitive information" with it.
