TikTok Sounds: Add, Find, Save and Make Your Own

How to add a sound on any TikTok account, the 1 million song Commercial Music Library, 2025's biggest sounds, and how to make and save your own.

A TikTok sound is the audio behind a video: a song, someone's original audio, a voiceover or a sound effect. Other people can reuse a public sound in their own videos, which is how sound trends spread. TikTok's biggest sound of 2025, "Pretty Little Baby" by Connie Francis, was used over 28.4 million times.

We read TikTok's two Commercial Music Library help articles, its music library blog post and three TikTok newsroom posts on October 24, 2026.

About 22,200 people search "tiktok sounds" each month.

How do you add a sound to a TikTok?

It's three taps:

  1. Tap the + at the bottom of the app to open the camera.
  2. Tap Add sound at the top of the screen.
  3. Pick a sound, then record or upload your video.

What you see in step 2 depends on your account. TikTok's help, updated in July 2026, spells it out. On a personal account, "you will see all sounds." On a business account, "you will only see sounds from the Commercial Music Library."

A personal account can switch to those cleared songs, too. You'll tap the Sounds button and pick Commercial Sounds from the dropdown.

Why do business accounts see fewer sounds?

Music licenses. TikTok's Commercial Music Library holds 1 million songs that are "pre-cleared" and "free for businesses to use," as its July 2025 help article puts it. The general library doesn't carry those rights. "Businesses cannot use the general music library for commercial usage," TikTok says.

The rule covers everything a business posts:

  • Organic posts, including a duet, react or stitch with someone else's video
  • Video ads
  • Branded content

TikTok's business blog warns that promoting a business with the general library from a personal account puts you "at risk of copyright infringement." Its help adds a caution about other people's original sounds in business posts: "consult your legal team to ensure you have obtained a proper license."

You can browse the library on the web, too. There's a desktop version in TikTok's Creative Center that you can filter by region, usable placements, themes, genre, mood and duration. It'll show up to 10,000 songs at a time, so you'll need filters or search for the rest.

The library keeps growing. TikTok's blog counted over 600,000 tracks in 2021. If you haven't switched yet, our guide to the TikTok business account covers what else changes.

What were the biggest TikTok sounds of 2025?

TikTok named its top songs of 2025 on December 9, 2025. These are the ones it gave numbers for:

TikTok Newsroom, "TikTok reveals the Top Artists and Songs of 2025" (December 9, 2025), read October 24, 2026. TikTok's full top 20 is an image in that post, so the table lists the songs it named in text.

There's room for old songs, too. "Pretty Little Baby" first came out in 1962, and it was TikTok's track of the year both worldwide and in the US. "Anxiety" started as a 2019 demo that TikTok users asked Doechii to release.

TikTok's music reach goes past the app, too. It says 8 of the 10 Billboard number ones of 2025 "had a TikTok viral moment first."

Watch for the same audio across your For You feed. When you've heard it a few times, check it:

  • Open the sound's page. Tap the sound's name or the spinning record on a video. Creator guides note it shows how many videos use the sound.
  • Search by topic. Search results have a Sounds tab with popular sounds and their use counts, as a web search of creator guides showed it.
  • Use Creative Center on a business account. Its library view ranks Commercial Sounds by popularity, and you can filter by region.

Our guide to the TikTok algorithm covers how TikTok picks what to show.

How do you make your own sound on TikTok?

Post a video with your own audio and don't add a song from the library. Creator guides describe what happens next, as a web search summarized them. TikTok lists the audio as an original sound under your name. Other people can then tap it and use it in their videos.

That's only possible while the video is public. A video set to "Only me" keeps others from reusing the sound.

How do you save a sound on TikTok?

You've got two ways to save one:

  • Inside TikTok: open the sound's page and tap "Add to Favorites," as creator guides describe it. It'll then wait in your favorites when you tap Add sound.
  • To a music app: TikTok's Add to Music App sends a song to Spotify, Apple Music or Amazon Music. TikTok says people had saved "over 3 billion tracks" this way by December 2025.

Taylor Swift was the most-saved artist of 2025 through Add to Music App. sombr's "back to friends" was the most-saved track.

How do you get your own song on TikTok?

TikTok runs one service that puts your music on the app and another that tracks it.

SoundOn is TikTok's own distribution platform, launched in March 2022. It lets artists "upload their music directly to TikTok and begin earning royalties, when that music is used." SoundOn pays artists 100% of royalties in the first year and 90% after that. It can also send your music to other streaming services.

TikTok for Artists shows how your songs do. It launched on June 3, 2025 with daily dashboards: "the number of views, posts and creator engagements per track." You'll need a certified TikTok Artist Account. It covered 31 countries by August 26, 2025. Its Pre-Release tool lets fans pre-save an album to Spotify or Apple Music.

If Spotify's part of your plan, our guides to Spotify for Artists and uploading music to Spotify cover that side.
