Why Can't I Follow People on TikTok? The Limits and Fixes

TikTok caps following at 10,000 accounts and slows fast followers with 'You're following too fast.' Daily limits aren't published. The causes and fixes.

If TikTok won't let you follow people, you've probably hit one of two limits. The first is the total cap. Guides agree you can follow up to 10,000 accounts, and wikiHow's November 2025 guide says to "make sure you haven't exceeded the 10,000 follow limit." The second is speed. Follow too many people in a short time and TikTok shows "You're following too fast," then blocks follows for a while. TikTok doesn't publish a daily number. Hooka's June 2026 guide says the figures people quote, "200/day, 500/day, 30/hour," don't come from TikTok.

We read TikTok's support page and the guides as Google shows them on October 23, 2026. We didn't test the limits on a live account.

What does "You're following too fast" mean?

It's a temporary block on following. Planly's guide says the message "means that you have exceeded the daily TikTok follow limit." A creator's April 2025 video adds that TikTok "monitors how quickly someone follows accounts," and that a burst can "trigger a temporary cooldown." The block lifts on its own after a wait, and TikTok doesn't say how long.

To avoid it, follow at a human pace. Old advice on Quora suggests following "a few people every 5-10 minutes." BIGVU's July 2026 guide puts the soft limit at "around 15 per hour," though again that's a guide's estimate and TikTok's own number is unpublished.

How many people can you follow on TikTok?

Up to 10,000, by every guide we read. A Reddit user in November 2025 called 10,000 "the maximum following limit on TikTok." Once you hit it, TikTok won't let you follow anyone new until you unfollow some accounts. Followers aren't capped the same way, so popular accounts can have millions.

Why can't a new TikTok account follow anyone?

New accounts often get tighter limits at first. One comment on TikTok's own topic pages says "You just gotta wait a day, and when you go to follow people wait 10 seconds each." Reddit's troubleshooting thread from December 2024 lists clearing the cache as a fix when "just one device doesn't let you follow users."

How do you follow someone on TikTok?

TikTok's support page gives the basic steps: "In the TikTok app, go to the person's profile," then "Tap Follow." If the account is private, you'll see a request until they accept.

Following lots of people fast won't grow your own account much, and it triggers the block. Hclout's free tier gives 25 free TikTok likes or 100 free TikTok views with no password, on the free page.
