How to Unblock or Block Someone on Facebook
Unblock in Settings & privacy, Settings, then Blocking. Block from their profile's three dots. The 48-hour rule, what a block hides, and unfriending.
To unblock someone on Facebook, open the menu, tap Settings & privacy, then Settings, and scroll to Blocking. Find their name in your blocked list, tap Unblock and confirm. To block someone, open their profile, tap the three dots and choose Block. They aren't told when you block them. Think before you unblock, though: "You won't be able to block them again for 48 hours," Facebook's help center says.
We read Facebook's help center as Google showed it on October 23, 2026, along with Security.org's February 2026 guide. Facebook's pages refuse our reader, so its words are quoted from Google's view of them.

- Open Settings. "Scroll down and tap Settings & privacy, then tap Settings."
- Scroll down and tap Blocking.
- Tap Unblock next to their name, then confirm.
On a computer, it's Settings, then Blocking, Security.org's guide says. "You'll see your full blocked list under 'Block users,'" it adds.
Facebook's help center lists what unblocking changes. "When you unblock a profile or Page, that profile or Page will be able to see your posts on Facebook that you share with the public." Also, "Unblocking a profile won't add them as a Facebook friend again." And "You won't be able to block them again for 48 hours." That wait exists to stop people "repeatedly blocking and unblocking others as a form of harassment," Security.org says.

Security.org's guide, updated February 20, 2026.
"Profiles won't be notified when you block them," Facebook's help center says. Your old chats stay put. "Blocking doesn't remove old messages from Messenger," Security.org says. You may still see them around the edges, too. "There's a chance that you'll see content about the blocked profile through mutual friends," Facebook notes.
How do you see your blocked list on Facebook?
It's the same path: Settings & privacy, then Settings, then Blocking. Everyone you've blocked is listed there, with an Unblock button next to each name. "How to see blocked list on facebook" gets about 8,100 searches a month.
How do you unfriend someone instead?
Facebook's help center gives these steps:
- "Tap Search in the top right of Facebook."
- "Go to that profile by typing their profile name into the search bar at the top."
- "Tap Friends."
- "Tap Unfriend, then tap Yes."
"The profile you unfriended won't be notified," the help center says. Unfriending ends the connection, but it doesn't hide your profile. If you don't want them seeing it at all, blocking is the stronger step. "How to unfriend someone on facebook" gets about 18,100 searches a month, up 15%.
How do you know if someone blocked you on Facebook?
Facebook won't tell you, and the signs aren't proof. If you can't find someone's profile, "they may have deleted their account or blocked you from seeing it," wikiHow's guide says, as Google shows it. A Reddit answer from March 2026 puts it simply: "Blocked: You can't see their profile and you can't message them."
Watch for fake help numbers here too. A Facebook group post in Google's results for this topic on October 23, 2026 carried a phone number to call. Facebook's help pages don't list one, so don't call it, and never share a login code.
