How to Leave a Facebook Group

To leave a Facebook group, open the group, tap Options or the Joined button, tap Leave Group, and confirm. Nobody gets told. "Members won't be notified if you leave," Facebook's help center says. You come off the member list, and the group drops off your groups list. If you only want fewer notifications, you can unfollow the group and stay a member.

1. "Tap Menu in the top right of Facebook, then tap Groups and select your group."
2. "Tap Options in the top right, then tap Leave Group."

Some versions show a Joined button instead. wikiHow's February 2025 steps end with "Tap Joined," "Tap Leave Group" and "Tap Leave This Group." Either way, you end on the same confirmation.

Can you mute a group without leaving?

Yes. Unfollow it. A Facebook group answer from July 2026 says to "Hit the 3 dots in the upper right hand corner," where "a drop down menu should appear with the 'unfollow' option." You stay a member and see less from it.
