Snapchat Spotlight: How to Post, Rank and Get Paid
Snapchat Spotlight shows the most entertaining Snaps to everyone. How to post, how Snap ranks it, why Snaps get no views, and the payout rules for 2026.
Snapchat Spotlight is Snapchat's feed of public videos from everyone, friends or not. Snap says it "shines a light on the most entertaining Snaps, no matter who created them." Users 16 or older can post videos of 5 seconds or more, wherever Spotlight posting is enabled. Creators who clear Snap's bars can earn a share of the ad money, too.
We read 10 Snapchat Support articles about Spotlight, ranking and monetization on October 24, 2026.
About 14,800 people search "snapchat spotlight" each month, and "spotlight snapchat" is up 48%.
How do you post on Snapchat Spotlight?
From the camera, in four steps:
- Record a video Snap that's 5 seconds or longer.
- On the preview screen, tap Post. It shows up where the Stories button usually is.
- Add a description, a location or a #topic, if you like.
- Tap the blue triangle to submit.
You can also pick Spotlight at the top of the Send To screen. Or post from a computer at profile.snapchat.com, as our Snapchat Web guide explains.
Snap sets a few conditions. The Post button only appears "when you're 16 or older, you're in a region where Spotlight posting is enabled, and your video is 5 seconds or longer." Your post also goes to your Story by default, and you can switch that off before you submit.
Why are my Spotlight Snaps getting no views?
There are three likely reasons, going by Snapchat's help:
- It's still waiting. Snap moderates Spotlight posts "before it is shared with the wider Snapchat community." In My Account, a Snap marked Submitted isn't live yet. Live means it's out.
- It didn't make the cut. "Not every Snap will make it into Spotlight," Snap says.
- It doesn't meet the recommendation rules. To reach people beyond your friends and subscribers, a Snap has to meet Snap's Content Guidelines for Recommendation Eligibility.
Your name only shows on a Spotlight if you have a public profile. "Only Snapchatters who have a Public Profile can have their display name associated with their Spotlight Snap," Snap says.
How does Snapchat rank Spotlight?
Snap ranks Spotlight by predicting what you'll do with each Snap. It says it estimates the chance you'll favorite or share it, and "the expected amount of time you'll spend viewing it."
The signals it says matter most:
- Who you are: your country, language, age and gender
- What you've liked: content and creators you watched, favorited, subscribed to, shared or commented on
- What the Snap is: its category, plus details like "posted location, language and hashtags"
- What you've rejected: content you chose to hide or report
Watching to the end counts, too. Snap tracks "how long you watch a piece of content and whether you completed it." Skipping is a sign you didn't like it. Snap's own tip for creators: "Dynamic motion and bright colors in your very first Snap hook your audience."
Does Snapchat pay for Spotlight?
Yes, through its Monetization Program, which is by invite. Snap shows ads "between Snaps in a Public Story or within a Spotlight," and creators in the program get a share of the revenue. Here are the bars Snap lists:
| Requirement | Snap's rule |
|---|---|
| Followers | At least 50,000 |
| View time | 15,000 hours in the last 28 days, with at least 3,000 from Spotlight |
| Age | 18 or older, or the age of majority where you live |
| Status | A Snap Star in an eligible country |
| Spotlight view time for maximum rewards | 100 hours in the last 28 days, since May 7, 2026 |
| Video length to earn | At least 30 seconds |
| Cashing out | From $100, daily |

You can track the 100-hour rule under Daily Rewards Eligibility at the top of your Insights. It's there in the app and in Profile Manager.
Watch for scams, too. "Snap does not charge any fees or accept payment of any kind in exchange for invitation to the Monetization Program," it says. Anyone offering an invite for money isn't from Snap.
Can you see Spotlight on a computer?
Yes. Snap says "You can also view Spotlight on Snapchat for Web," and you can upload to it from a browser too.
