To delete a Snapchat Story, tap your Bitmoji to open My Account and tap My Story. Then press and hold each Snap and tap Delete Snap. There's no button for the whole Story at once. "To delete an entire Story, you'll have to delete each individual Snap in your Story," Snapchat's support site says. Most Stories disappear on their own after 24 hours anyway.

We read Snapchat's support pages on October 23, 2026. They cover deleting Stories and Snaps, when Snapchat deletes content, and the My Story Timer.

"How to delete a snapchat story" gets about 60,500 searches a month, and "how to delete a snap from your story" another 18,100.

How do you delete a Snapchat Story?

Snapchat's support site gives four steps:

  1. "Open My Account"
  2. "Under 'My Stories,' tap on 'My Story' to view it"
  3. "Press and hold on each Snap you want to delete"
  4. "Tap 'Delete Snap'"

There's a second way. Open the Story, "Swipe up on the Snap you want to delete," then "Tap the garbage can icon at the bottom and tap 'Delete'," Snapchat says. If your Story has several Snaps, tap through to the one you want first.

Does a deleted Snap disappear for everyone?

Almost always. "When you delete a Snap, we'll attempt to remove it from our servers and your friends' devices," Snapchat says. It adds a catch: "This might not always work if someone has a bad internet connection, or is running an old version of Snapchat." Then the Snap "may still appear for a brief moment."

Deleting doesn't undo what people already did. "Anyone else who can view the Story can screenshot Snaps, too," Snapchat warns. For public Stories, it says "we may retain some data about the Snap for up to 30 days in order to help us personalize your experience on Snapchat."

How long does a Snapchat Story last?

It's usually a day. "Most Stories are set to delete after 24 hours unless you change the settings, save the Story to your Public Profile, have auto-saving Stories to Memories enabled, or you or a Friend saves it in Chat," Snapchat says.

What you setWhat happens
NothingThe Snap deletes after about 24 hours
Snapchat+ My Story TimerYou pick 1 hour to 1 week
Saved to your Public ProfileIt stays past 24 hours
Auto-save to MemoriesA copy stays in Memories
Saved in ChatIt stays in that chat

Snapchat Support, "When does Snapchat delete Snaps and Chats?" and "How does the My Story Timer work on Snapchat?", read October 23, 2026.

The timer is a Snapchat+ feature. Subscribers "can set a Snap to expire after 1 hour, 6 hours, 12 hours, 24 hours, 2 days, 3 days, or 1 week," Snapchat says. The button for it sits on the Send To screen.

Can you delete Snaps from a Private or Shared Story?

Yes, though there's a limit. "If you created a Private or Shared Story, you can also delete other people's Snaps from that Story. Otherwise, you can only delete the Snaps that you added to it," Snapchat says. In a Shared Story, "You can delete your Snaps from a Shared Story at anytime." It's worth knowing that "the person who created a Story can save the entire Story to their Memories at any time."

How do you delete Snaps from Memories or Snap Map?

From Memories, delete the Snap there, and Snapchat says its servers "are designed to erase that Snap as soon as possible."

For Snap Map, "go to the 'Spotlight & Snap Map' section in your Profile to view the Snaps, press and hold on the Snap you want to delete, and tap 'Delete Snap,'" Snapchat says. That'll also remove it from Search and Context Cards. Snap Map posts are public content, though, so a copy "may still appear off Snapchat if it has been shared off of Snapchat."

What about a Snap you sent in Chat?

"To delete a Snap in Chat, press and hold on it and tap 'Delete,'" Snapchat says. It won't go unnoticed: "Your friends will be able to see that a Snap was deleted in Chat."
